New Duluth city council members to tackle old city problems

By KBJR News 1

Patrick Boyle won the district two seat by a land sliding 65%. Kerry
Gauthier took the district four seat inching past his opponent with
52% of the votes. Dan Hartman will join incumbent Jim Stauber as a
councilor at large with 26% of the votes. Hartman and Boyle said one
of the first things they plan to tackle on the council is the city's
massive budget shortfall.

"We had this problem the last fifteen years but we didn't resolve it
and now it's really starting to get on us and now we're getting
reactionary on it," Boyle said.

"We as a city do a fairly poor job of communicating where are budget
really is where our revenue comes from and I think that's one of the
first things we need to do is just let people know how much money we
get from the state how much money we get from our sales tax, how much we get from property tax," Hartman added.

Hartman and Boyle said re–zoning and restoring city services like
parks and recreation will also be important issues they will take on
as councilors.
