Oakdale, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- Investigators in Washington County are building a case against a 34-year-old Oakdale man who is accused of opening fire on a number of targets Monday night, killing a 9-year-old boy, KARE 11 reports.
Devin Aryal was riding in a minivan with his mother when a man opened fire from the street.
After being shot, his mom pulled over at a nearby store to call 911.
Devin died on his way to the hospital.
His mother suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and has been treated and released.
Meanwhile a woman in a different vehicle was also shot and had to undergo surgery.
Soon after the shooting police found the suspected gunman walking in the area.
They recovered a handgun nearby.
The suspect has been identified by Washington County authorities as Nahn Lap Tran.
A witness told KARE 11 she saw the suspect, dressed in dark clothing and likely carrying a backpack, walking nonchalantly down the street in front of her house.
Moments later, the woman heard what she described as "about 15 shots." She then dialed 911.
The 34-year-old man is being held on possible charges of second degree murder and second degree assault.
Police say they are confident he acted alone, but at this point have not commented on a potential motive.
