Beltrami County, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities in Beltrami County are investigating a fire they believe was set to a house to cover up evidence of a burglary.

Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Cass Lake Fire and Leech Lake Tribal Police responded to a house fire in the 6800 block of Maple Beach Court NE in Sugarbush Township just before 2 p.m. Monday. They found a house fully engulfed and evidence that the house had been burglarized prior to the fire. The house is considered a total loss.

As authorities began to investigate the scene, they found indications that the fire had been set as a means to cover up evidence of a burglary which occurred. The State Fire Marshall's Office was contacted to aid in the arson investigation while Beltrami County continued to work on the burglary investigation.

Police learned that an older model sedan, described as being light brown or tan in color with a darker brown driver's door and a loud exhaust system, was seen driving away from the area.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in providing any information about anyone who may own a similar vehicle or a license plate for a vehicle with this description.

If you have any information, please contact the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
