Charges Pending in Connection with LCO Reservation Shooting

26 year old James Hamilton died after he was shot on August 7th at an apartment on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation.

Sawyer County, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Charges are pending in connection with a fatal shooting on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation.

Authorities responded to a 911 call that someone had been shot at an apartment on the reservation on Wednesday around 11:30pm.

Officers found 26 year old James A. Hamilton of Stone Lake dead with two gunshot wounds, one to his head and another to his abdomen.

Further investigation revealed that Hamilton along with another person allegedly entered a man's house unwanted and battered him. Authorities say the owner of the house allegedly shot Hamilton.

The 29 year old owner of the house was transported to an area hospital and then taken to the Sawyer County Jail. He has since been released from the jail.

The other man involved in the altercation was arrested for a probation violation with charges pending in connection with the shooting.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Hamilton.

This case is being investigated by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from LCO Police Department, Division of Criminal Investigations and Wisconsin State Patrol.

The investigation will be forwarded to the Sawyer County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
