Hermantown, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A 50 year old man is in custody after he allegedly sent police on a nine mile pursuit that ended in a standoff in Duluth.
On Wednesday, authorities in Hermantown were advised that a vehicle had been reported stolen by a Chisholm resident and was traveling in the area of Miller Trunk Highway and Ugstad Road. The location of the car was provided by On-Star.
Authorities located the stolen 2009 Buick Lacrosse near Vaux Road. Officers tried to stop the car, but the driver appeared to be ignoring the signal to stop by police.
The driver then led officers on a nine mile pursuit into the City of Duluth, ending along Central Entrance near 13th Street after the car hit the median curb and flattened two tires.
Officers had a short standoff with the lone occupant of the car before taking him into custody and transporting him to the St. Louis County Jail. No injuries or property damage was reported during the pursuit
The suspect allegedly stole cash, credit cards and the Buick from an acquaintance in Chisholm.
On Thursday, an ambulance was called to transport the suspect from the jail to Essentia Health in Duluth for medical reasons. Once the suspect is released from the hospital, authorities will request that he be charged with Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Possession of Stolen Property and Driving after Revocation.
