Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) ---- A Detroit Lakes man charged in connection with a burglary in Grand Rapids that ended in a police stand-off has pleaded guilty.

25-year-old Steven Carpentier appeared in Itasca County District Court on charges of first degree burglary after he and a 16-year-old male broke into a home and stole a gun and other items.

The charges stem from the incident that occurred in April on the 600 block of Pokegama Avenue.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, officers tried to stop Carpenter as he fled on foot to a nearby house.

Authorities say they secured that home and, with the help of a Crisis Negotiator, were able to get Carpenter and the juvenile male to leave the house.

As part of a negotiated plea agreement, Carpentier could spend just shy of the next five years in prison.

A sentencing hearing is set for July 9 at 8:30 a.m.
