St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Babbitt fire chief Ryan Scharber has been charged for allegedly setting fires in the Superior National Forest.

Scharber has been charged with three counts of setting fires in the Superior National Forest.

Federal prosecutors charged Scharber with Setting U.S. Forest Land on Fire, Arson on U.S. Forest Land and Attempted Arson.

The charges allege that Scharber set fires twice in October of 2011, once in April of 2012 and once in September of 2012 in the Superior National Forest.

Scharber is also charged with attempting to set the Mattila's Birch Lake Resort in Babbitt on fire in December of 2011.
