Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A former Minnesota Corrections Officer accused of engaging in sexual misconduct with a female inmate last year plead guilty to some of those charges.

56-year-old James Alan Bongaarts appeared in court Monday and pleaded guilty to two felony counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct.

The charges stem from allegations that Bongaarts engaged in multiple sexual activities with a female inmate over a two month period at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Togo, Minnesota.

Under the plea agreement, Bongaarts would serve more than five years in prison. The plea deal is subject to approval from the court.

Sentencing in this case is scheduled for May 13.
