St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A halfway house in Golden Valley will become the home of the first person ever to be released from the Minnesota Sexual Offender Program.
Clarence Opheim was civilly committed nearly 20 years ago to the MSOP after serving prison time for molesting children.
At one point the 64 year old received treatment at the state facility in Moose Lake.
The Golden Valley Police Department has scheduled a public notification meeting on March 5th.
Just last week Minnesota lawmakers rushed a new state law into place requiring community notification when civilly committed offenders are released.
That law took effect Friday (2/24).
