Hibbing, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A 71-year-old Hibbing man who allegedly hit and killed a man on a scooter while under the influence of alcohol has plead guilty to the charges.

Lyle Elmer White appeared in Itasca County District Court Wednesday on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and entered a guilty plea.

The charges stem from allegations that White caused the death of another person during a September 2012 traffic accident that occurred on Itasca County Road 29 where White was found to have been under the influence of alcohol and driving negligently. He then hit a man on a mobility scooter, causing his death.

Pursuant to a negotiated plea, White would receive an anticipated sentence of 57 months in prison. The sentence would be stayed and White would be placed on supervised probation for 10 years on the following conditions: 12 months in jail or 6 months in jail and 12 months of electronic home monitoring, $1,085 fine, DNA sample, $1,000 restitution, chemical dependency evaluation and follow recommendations, and no use or possession of alcohol or drugs.

The plea is subject to the approval of the court. A sentencing hearing is set for June 24.
