Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Authorities throughout the Northland are reminding people over this holiday weekend that they'll have extra Officers patrolling the region, looking for DWI cases.
According to Duluth Police from 2009 to 2013 there was only one alcohol related traffic death over St. Patrick's Day Weekend.
However, during that same time, over 1,450 drivers were arrested for DWI; a number police say has gone up every year.
On average, there are 250 DWI arrests in Duluth over Saint Patrick's Day weekend. Last year, there were 375.
Partygoers are reminded to plan a safe, sober ride home to avoid the consequences that come with a DWI.
More than a half million Minnesotans have one on record, and that's one in seven drivers.
