LCO Reservation ,WI (The Northland's NewsCenter) - Just days after a fatal stabbing on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, State and County law enforcement were on the reservation for a seemingly unconnected reason.

Drug Enforcement spokespeople say the health center search is part of an ongoing investigation into potential misuse of prescription drugs.

The agency isn't providing many details about the on-going investigation but Reservation residents say illegal use of prescription drugs has been a problem for some time.

We spoke to a former nurse at the health center who declined to go on camera but told us that she quit her job because she didn't agree with the loose prescribing of narcotic drugs.

In her words, you could walk into the health center with a toothache and walk out with prescription pain pills.

The feeling was echoed by several other residents we spoke to off camera.

Many on the reservation are on edge after the stabbing on Friday, followed by the federal search of their health care center.

It's unclear whether the two events are related in any way.

As the investigation continues, we will have the latest details on our website.
