Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- A new, but familiar face in the Northland is about to take over as Cloquet's top cop.

Lieutenant Steve Stracek, a 21-year veteran of the Duluth Police Department has been named the new Chief of Police for the Cloquet Police Department.

Stracek started at the Duluth Police Department in 1993, and worked his way through the way ranks from sergeant to Lieutenant and Commander of the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.

Stracek fills the shoes of Wade Lamirande, who retired in May.

"Im very excited for the opportunity. I'm looking forward to a new chapter in my life. I'm really looking forward to getting into that community, you know learning that community, getting to know the department and the people in the city and taking on this new job," said Lieutenant Stracek.

The search for a new chief went nationwide, before being narrowed down to six candidates.

Stracek starts as Chief of Police on August 4.
