Pine River Man Charged with Murder

Cass County, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- A Pine River, MN man has been charged with murder after he allegedly killed a man.

28 year old, Dane Joseph Riley was charged with 2nd Degree Intentional Murder and Interference with a Dead Body.

According to court documents, on July 20th, the Cass County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a missing person.

Authorities say that the missing man had not been seen or heard from since July 13th.

An investigation revealed that Riley had picked up the man at a house sometime during the early morning hours on July 14th.

Officers say they found the charred clothing and the remains of the man in a burn pit located near the residence.

A woman residing at the house told officers that she had been awakened by the sound of two gunshots that morning.

The woman told police that she went outside and saw the man on the ground with Riley on top of him, striking him in the chest area.

Bail has been set for Riley at one million dollars without conditions.

Riley is due back in court on August 13th.

The investigation is ongoing.
