A man has been arrested for allegedly punching an 84 year old woman in the face, and robbing her in her Superior home over the weekend.
Police say the suspect is a 47-year-old man from Duluth.
He was arrested Monday morning after a passerby called 9-1-1 after spotting the vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the robbery.
The man lead police on a short chase during which he crashed into a couple cars and collided with a building on Ogden Avenue.
The original incident happened around 6:30 Sunday morning at the Phoenix Villa Apartments on Clough Avenue in Superior.
An elderly woman answered the door of her home after she heard someone knocking. She was subsequently punched in the face and knocked on the floor.
The suspect allegedly demanded money and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the woman and entered the home, stealing some other small items.
Authorities are still investigating whether this was a random attack, but say there is no threat to public safety.
"I don't believe so. We obviously made an arrest and we're quite confident that he's the person that perpetrated the acts from the strong armed robbery on the 11th," said Chief Deputy Nicholas Alexander, Division of Investigations for the Superior Police Department.
The suspect is being held at the Douglas County Jail on charges of fleeing a police officer, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, robbery, burglary, substantial battery and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
Authorities told us that numerous stolen items were retrieved from the suspect's vehicle that were reported stolen from other burglary incidents in Superior.
They are still investigating these incidents and whether the same suspect may have been involved.
The suspect could make an initial appearance in Douglas County Court as soon as Tuesday.
