Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - The director of the Superior Douglas county Senior Citizen's Center has been arrested on embezzlement charges for allegedly stealing funds from the center.
On Monday, a board member notified the Superior Police Department that the director had admitted to taking an unauthorized amount of cash over an unknown period of time.
The 30-year-old Superior man has served as director for nearly six years and was present and cooperative when investigators arrived.
The exact amount of the thefts is not known, but it is believed to be in excess of $10,000.
The man was arrested on felony charges.
The Senior Center in Superior is a charitable organization and the allegations raise concerns for those who rely on it.
"People who use the services and visit the place are certainly concerned , you know its a non-profit organization, or a charitable organization that provides services to the senior community and a lot of people depend on it so I'm sure a lot of people are concerned and wouldn't want those types of services disrupted," said Deputy Chief Nicholas Alexander with the Superior Police Dept.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on March 12.
If convicted on the charges, he could face up a fine of $25,000 and/ or 10 years in prison.
