Sex Offender sentenced to 9 years in prison

(NNCNOW.com) --- A criminal sex offender has learned his punishment for touching a young boy he was babysitting in Cass County, Minnesota.

Melvin Eugene Smith III was sentenced to serve 110 months in prison.

The criminal complaint states the 30-year-old had sexually touched the boy on multiple occasions in 2011 in Remer.

He pleaded guilty to Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree.

Judge Jana Austad committed Smith to the Commissioner of Corrections immediately.

Upon his release from prison, Smith will be subject to predatory offender registration and will be assigned a predatory offender risk level

Smith has been convicted of failing to register as a predatory offender on two prior occasions.
