Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities are investigating a recent string of burglaries at Superior ICO convenience stores during the month of July.

Over the past two weeks, the Superior Police Department has responded to four burglary alarm calls between the ICO stores on the 2700 Block of North 21st Street in Billings Park and the store on the 5900 Block of Tower Avenue in South Superior.

The first incident was during the early morning hours of July 3rd at the Billings Park store. Officers say a large quantity of cigarettes was taken in that burglary.

The second incident took place two days later on July 5th at the South Superior store, again during the early morning hours. Cigarettes were also taken in that incident.

Superior Police Chief Charles LaGesse says the increased cost of cigarettes has some people going to desperate measures to feed their addiction.

"Cigarettes have become a bigger target for theft because they are so valuable." Superior Police Chief Charles LaGesse said. "The cost for a pack of cigarettes have got to where a lot of people who are addicted to them can't afford to buy them, so they become a target for theft because they can be sold on the street at a reduced price by somebody who would steal them."

On July 9th and July 13th squads responded to the Billings Park location only to find a smashed glass front door to the business but determined no entry was made.

Authorities estimate the total loss to be $2,500 worth of cigarettes and $5,500 in damage.

ICO Corporation is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved.

Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to contact the Superior Police Department.
