Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- The teen involved in the alleged inappropriate relationship with a Cook County Attorney took the stand today to testify against the man she once called a "mentor" in her life.
The girl, who was 17 at the time of the alleged acts, and who is 19 now, was visibly upset on the stand as she described Tim Scannell as a father figure and someone she trusted very much in her life, enough to be alone with him.
She testified that Scannell told her he had feelings for her in the Spring of 2012.
The teen testified that on two different occasions in August of 2012 Scannell picked her up in his family van and drove out to a secluded road and parked.
She testified that the two kissed, and Scannell took it further, touching her breasts, stomach and butt.
She said Scannell pressured her to have sex and oral sex with him one occasion and she said no.
The girl said she was fine with the acts while they were happening, but very confused.
She said on the stand that she knew what they were doing was wrong, but didn't want to lose Scannell in her life.
Tim Scannell's sister Tara also took the stand today, testifying that her brother pocket dialed her while he was alone in the van with the teenager in June of 2012 and she overheard an inappropriate interaction between the two.
Tara Scannell reported the incident and her concerns about an inappropriate relationship between her 45-year-old brother and a 17-year-old girl to the Cook County high School Counselor.
It was that phone call that eventually led to the investigation.
Scannell admitted he was in the love with the teen to her mother after being talked to by the Counselor.
Scannell refused to stop contacting their daughter, which led to the family filing a restraining order against him for stalking her and harassing the family.
Tim Scannell will take the stand in his own defense later this week.
The trial is expected to wrap up either Thursday or Friday.
