Hermantown, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Hermantown Police are urging residents to lock their car doors and not leave valuables in their cars due to numerous reports of vehicle prowls in the North Central part of the city.
Authorities say that at least eight people have reported that sometime Sunday night, someone had entered their cars and stolen items from the vehicles. A witness to the car prowls says that they saw the suspect checking door handles in hopes of finding an unlocked car.
The victims of these car prowls say that their vehicles were unlocked at the time of the theft. Items stolen from the cars appear to mainly be cash.
Police have also been responding to reports of someone prowling mailboxes.
Police are urging residents to lock car doors and remove valuables from inside your cars. They are also asking residents to check their mail daily so as not to leave it in the box overnight. This is an effective way for identity thieves to gather your information and defraud you or a loved one.
If you have any information regarding these recent car prowls, please contact the Hermantown Police Department.
