Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Police at Wisconsin's State Capitol in Madison prevented a possible tragedy on Tuesday at the Capitol building after they apprehended a man who allegedly had an explosive in this backpack.

Police say that the suspect had stated on his Facebook page that he was going to come to the Capitol to do harm.

Authorities were able to apprehend the suspect in the rotunda of the Capitol wherein the suspect allegedly stated that he had a Molotov cocktail in his backpack.

The suspect has been booked in the Dane County jail and is awaiting formal charges on four counts of felony possession of Molotov cocktails, one felony count of creating a bomb scare, one felony county of 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety and one misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.

“A tragedy was avoided and our Capitol remains safe because of the actions of our officers yesterday,” said Secretary Mike Huebsh.

Secretary Huebsh would also like to thank all the law enforcement from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources, DOJ Department of Criminal Investigation, UW Madison, City of Milwaukee, and City of Madison for their assistance in Tuesday's events.
