Minnesota's "Biggest Loser" contest is over, but the promotion of a healthy lifestyle...is not.
The Northland's second-annual community wellness day was held today.
Saint Louis County employees took part in Minnesota's weight-loss challenge and lost more than 6-hundred pounds.
O'Neal Hampton from the 9th Season of "Biggest Loser," was the keynote speaker.
Over 50 participants partnered up in this national initiative, to help educate the public on healthy living choices, including members of the men's and woman's UMD Bulldog Hockey teams.
"The goal of this is to educate that community to realize that there are resources out there for them to utilize. Let's face it, the health care crisis isn't going to be solved in Washington, it's going to be solved by the individual taking responsibility for their health and doing something about it. I feel we have very good representation here of resources for people to use," Dr. Anthony Macioce, coordinator of Community Wellness Day, said.
All proceeds from today's event are going to the Damiano Center's Kids Café...which feeds under-privileged youth.
Organizers hope to raise more than 5-thousand dollars this year.
