Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)
It's Saturday night at UMD's Weber Music Hall.
The Lake Superior Youth Chorus is performing to celebrate its second decade of letting Twin Ports young people raise their voices in song.

"This was started 20 years ago by Jerry Kaldor who teaches at Hermantown Elementary School." said Dr. Bret Amundson.

Mr. Kaldor was in the crowd to see what his dream has become after those twenty years.
At least one of the members of the chorus is a former student of Kaldor.

"Jerry Kaldor was my music teacher in elementary school and he told me about the choir and I got involved and I kept with it." said Marit Williams.

Mr. Kaldor's original goal was to provide vocal training and performance opportunities for young people in grades 3–10.
Now, several directors, including Doctor Bret Amundson, guide singers towards those goals and others.

"Though music is what we do everyday, we talk about what it means to be professional, classy and self confident." said Amundson.

Denfeld student Diana Hanka feels those lessons will help her achieve her goal of becoming an attorney someday.

"Hard work, dedication, not giving up and striving to become better." said Hanka.

Director Amundson believes all his vocalists are learning those life lessons, too.

"These ladies are extremely professional. They learn something they maybe don't learn in other school courses and they get to perform at a really high level." said Amundson.

For those skills, the singers often thank their director in a somewhat tongue in cheek way.

"Thank you Doctor Amundson for helping us grow!" said the choir in unison.

In Duluth, Dave Anderson, KBJR 6 and Range 11.

The Lake Superior Youth Chorus also performed this (Sunday) morning for a golf scramble at Duluth's Lester Park Golf Course.
