St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A number of new people were elected to coveted spots on the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents today.

Taking over the 8th District spot, Duluthian Dave McMillan.

McMillan is the Executive Vice President of Minnesota Power and Senior Vice President of Marketing, Regulatory, Legislative and Public Affairs and Rates for ALLETE.

Northland lawmakers supported McMillian in his endeavors to take over the seat because of his knowledge of U-M-D and the area.

Two of the candidates he was up against were not from the region.

The University of Minnesota's Board of Regents sets the priorities for all colleges in the U of M system.

Regents sit on the board for a six-year term.
