Hermantown, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Department of Education has given the green light for the Hermantown School's Facilities Plan to be put to a vote in November.

In a letter to Superintendent Brad Johnson, Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius gave the plan a "positive review and comment for this project."

“The Department of Education is known for requiring school districts to meet very stringent standards and undertaking a detailed analytical review before it allows projects to move forward,” said Superintendent Johnson. “MDE’s positive response confirms the plan’s goals of improving education for our young people and providing fiscally prudent investments by the community.”

The facilities plan includes replacing the Middle School, updating the elementary and High School buildings to meet Department of Education standards as well as installing safe and secure entrances, among other projects.

Hermantown residents can vote on the plan on the November 5th ballot.
