Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety Releases 2013 Crash Facts Report

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Crash Facts Report revels traffic crashes are increasing, while traffic fatalities are decreasing.

After an increase of traffic fatalities in 2012, the number of deaths has decreased to 387 in 2013, the second lowest total in a decade.
But while fatalities have decreased, the number of traffic crashes has increased by 12% in 2013.

Driving while distracted, failure to yield right–of–way, and speeding were the top contributors to all crashes. In comparison to last year, alcohol was the top contributing factor to traffic fatalities,

The news is better on seat belt usage. Minnesota set a record high of 94.8% compliance with seat belt laws.
