What's now a grassy field with a great view of Lake Superior will soon be home to the new Lincoln Park Middle School in West Duluth.

District officials, students, parents and community members celebrated today with a ground breaking ceremony.

The new school will be located on the Wheeler North site.

Officials say the campus will provide the same state–of–the–art learning environment, security, and modern resources as other new schools in the district.

Deb DeVaney, a teacher at Morgan Park says the new school is a long time coming.

"We started the process over 20 years ago and we always were saying to ourselves during these planning processes, wouldn't it be great if we had building that was actually built for the way these kids learn and the way that we teach and that's why I am so excited today."

The new Lincoln Park Middle School will follow LEED certification guidelines...maximizing natural indoor lighting and air quality circulation.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by September of 2012.
