Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A Duluth teacher is $5,000 dollars richer after winning the 2011 Goldfine Gold Star Teacher Award.

This year's recipient is Mike Zeman who teaches at Stowe Elementary school. The announcement was made Wednesday night during a reception.

Zeman is considered a 'master teacher' and has been invited by District administrators to be a mentor to beginning teachers.

Nine Duluth teachers were nominated for their positive impact in the classroom, school and community, as well as their efforts to pursue professional development.

Manley and Lillian Goldfine established the fund in their belief that great teachers lay the foundation for the future success of their students.
