August 17, 2011 Updated Aug 17, 2011 at 8:54 AM CDT

Wisconsin students' composite ACT scores and overall participation are up from 2010.

The average composite score for students who graduated this spring was 22.2 out of 36, an increase from 21.1 last year. This year's national average was 21.1.

This year's composite score puts Wisconsin in third place among states where at least 50 percent of students took the test. Minnesota is in first place with a composite score of 22.9, and Iowa is in second with a score of 22.3.

Wisconsin students' participation rate also increased from 69 percent in 2010 to 71 percent in 2011, the highest participation rate in Wisconsin in the history of the ACT.
