Silver Bay, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) Cliffs Natural Resources is inviting community members to participate in a “Jerk the Merc Out” event that is being sponsored by Northshore Mining in Silver Bay, Minnesota.

On Tuesday, August 2, you can drop off the following items from your home, small business or non-profit organization:

Mercury Containing Devices:
•Fluorescent Bulbs
•Tilt Switches
•Mercury Thermometers
•Gas Range Pilot Safety Shut-off

Electronic Wastes:
•Computers, Towers, Printers
•Stereos (speakers are not allowed)
•Cellular Phones
•Computer Monitors (2 per person)
•Televisions (2 per person)
•Circuit Boards
•Microwaves

“This is a good opportunity to not only do some cleaning around the house, but also to remove and properly dispose of items that could be hazardous to the environment,” said Jim Korpi, Northshore Mining general manager. “Often times, these items get thrown into wooded areas and rivers because people do not want to pay the high cost of properly disposing of them. We’re happy to provide this service, as it preserves the beauty of the North Shore.”

Items can be dropped off at John’s Sanitary, 15 Golf Course Drive, Silver Bay, from 9am-2pm, free of charge, on Tuesday, August 2nd.
