She's rich. Really, really rich.
The winner of last month's massive $590.5 million Powerball drawing came forward to claim her prize on Wednesday, and the winner is an 84-year-old woman from Zephyrhills, Florida.
According to a report from The Tampa Tribune, Gloria C. MacKenzie was announced at the winner during a news conference Wednesday. She did not attend the news conference.
MacKenzie elected to take the lump-sum cash payment of her winnings, which turns out to be more than $370 million dollars before taxes, according to The Tampa Tribune report. MacKenzie bought the winning ticket at a Publix grocery store, according to the report.
The Florida lottery issued a news release Wednesday announcing MacKenzie's win, and MacKenzie provided the following statement to the Florida Lottery:
"Prior to the Lottery drawing, she and her son Scott had an agreement to split any proceeds with each other.
We bought the winning ticket as a single ticket even though we bought four other tickets before the drawing. While in line at Publix, another lottery player was kind enough to let me go ahead of them in line to purchase the winning Quick Pick ticket.
We are grateful for this blessing of winning the Florida Lottery Powerballs jackpot and appreciate the interest of the public, state of Florida and the Lottery. We hope that everyone will give us an opportunity to maintain our privacy for our family's benefit."
