Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) Authorities are now saying a boating accident that occurred Sunday, which left one person is dead, may have happened because it was overloaded.

According to the St Louis County Sheriff, authorities received a call of a water emergency near the Forest Lane Resort on Lake Vermilion around 3 a.m.

Authorities say the boat loaded with seven people was traveling between two lake resorts when it took on water and suddenly sank.

Two were able to swim to Forest Lane Resort and four others were rescued by staff from that same resort.

29 year old Casey Thomas Gilbertson was pronounced dead at the scene when rescue crews found him.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation indicates the boat may have been over weight in capacity and there weren't enough life vests for the number of passengers.

Investigators also say alcohol use may have been a factor.
