Babbitt City Council Accepts Former Fire Chief's Resignation

Babbitt, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- Babbitt City Councilors quietly accepted the resignation of their former fire chief in their first meeting of 2013.

News recently broke that Ryan Scharber is being investigated by several agencies.

He resigned in December following a complaint that city attorneys will not discuss because he is no longer a city employee.

The city council quickly moved through Scharber's official resignation with no opposition from council members, or the community and no discussion.

While the former mayor of Babbitt and the St. Louis County Sheriff's department have confirmed the on-going investigation into Scharber, the US Attorney's Office, the US Forest Service, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension all responded to our requests for information by saying they would neither confirm, nor deny the existence of an active investigation.
