Biwabik, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Mesabi Trail Bridge was held Monday.

Several people involved with the project had the honor of riding their bikes across the bridge to celebrate the bridge's completion.

The bridge is located over Wynne Lake and connects a portion of the Mesabi Trail near Giant's Ridge.

The total cost of the project was more than $2 million.

Those involved with the project say they hope it will help bring even more people to the popular tourist area.

"I think it's one of the few parts of the trail that goes over water. That will, we hope, draw a lot of people that haven't seen this end of the trail yet," said Biwabik Mayor Jim Weikum.

The IRRRB gave $230,000 to the St. Louis County Rail Authority for bridge and trail construction.
