Anchorage, Alaska (NNNCOW.com) - Chisholm-native Nathan Schroeder, known for his wins at the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, is currently in first place in the Iditarod's Rookie Race.

We're told Schroeder is having a fantastic run with some of the worst conditions teams in the world-famous race have ever seen.

Many teams scratched early due to crashes, broken sleds and musher injuries.

Schroeder is said to be just over halfway to the finish line.
