Chisholm, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Two organizations on the Iron Range are getting some extra donations this holiday season.

At a ceremony Wednesday morning in Chisholm, Delta Air Lines presented two checks, each worth $3 thousand dollars, to organizations helping those in need.

The contributions went to the Mesabi Family YMCA and the other went to the United Way of Northeastern Minnesota.

Shelley Valentini of United Way says that money makes a huge impact, and will help the organizations 'Buddy Backpack Program.'

"We're serving 720 children every weekend that are at risk of being hungry. The additional funds for our budgeting... we had an additional $25 thousand that we had to spend on the program this year that we weren't expecting, so this is really important to making that happen and changing lives," said Valentini.

United Way raises money to fund non profits in the Northland, while the Mesabi Family YMCA works to meet the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of YMCA members and participants.
