Fayal Township, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Authorities have released the name of the man who was hospitalized Monday after being struck by a train on the Iron Range.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Department says 18-year-old Joseph Petterson of Iron, MN was driving his dirt bike one mile south of Gilbert when the accident happened around 6:00 p.m.

Officials say a Canadian National Train, going 45 miles per hour, hit Petterson knocking him off the bike.

He was taken by ambulance to Essentia-Health St. Mary's hospital with leg and arm injures and is said to be in stable condition.

Authorities say Petterson was trespassing when he was hit.
