St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The EPA has sent the DNR an improved rating on Polymet's Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

Officials say the rating was upgraded due to the response to previous public comments.
DNR officials received more than 40,000 comments over a span of 90 days, ending today.
The DNR says today's announcement of an improved rating was expected from the EPA.

"It's the rating that the DNR expected and hoped to get. It now allows us to move on to the next phase of the final EIS. The EPA actually said it was a better document than in the past." said Chris Niskanen of the MInnesota DNR.

The DNR says that this next phase of the EIS will be the hardest of the work as environmental concerns are addressed.
