Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- An early morning accident involving a logging semi and a truck, on Highway 53, north of Virginia, temporarily shut down traffic as authorities worked to clear debris from the roadway.

The accident happened near the intersection of Highway 53, and 12th Avenue South near Virginia around 5am Monday morning.

The semi hauling the logs collided with the truck at the intersection. When the semi shifted, it also hit a third car that was west bound on Highway 53.

Some 10 to 15 logs from the semi fell from the truck and blocked the highway. The other truck leaked oil onto the road, which the Virginia fire department was called to clean up.

Traffic was shut down for about twenty minutes during cleanup.

The driver of the logging truck, 58 year old Mark Fosso of Cook, Minn., was uninjured but the driver of the other truck, 50 year old Peter Nilsson of Duluth was taken to the Virginia Regional Medical Center, and transferred to St. Mary's, in Duluth.

The driver of the third car, 30 year old Jacob Mills of Gilbert, Minn. did not sustain any apparent injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
