Eveleth Apartment Fire Displaces Two Families

EVELETH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- An apartment fire in Eveleth Saturday afternoon has left two families displaced and major damages to an apartment.

Fire crews responded to 524 Hayes St. around 2:30 p.m.

Fire officials say the fire broke out in the back porch area, spread to the first and second floors and caused extensive damage to the attic.

Eveleth Fire Chief Pete Makowski says the homeowners have found temporary housing.

Nobody was injured and fire crews were able to rescue three cats.

The Eveleth Fire Department and the State Marshal’s Office continue to investigate.

Firefighters from Fayal, Gilbert, Mountain Iron and Virginia helped to contain the fire.

Eveleth Police and St. Louis County Sheriff’s office also assisted.
