Eveleth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- An Eveleth man has been charged with burglary and car theft after officers responded to two reports of stolen cars.

On Sunday, Eveleth Police received a report of a car in the ditch along the 1300 Block of 4th Street West with a man outside who appeared to be intoxicated.

While officers were on their way to the scene, they received another call from a homeowner who says she saw someone stealing her car from the garage.

The stolen car was located, stuck in the snowbank with front end damage, however it was unoccupied. Officers also located the car in the initial report stuck in the ditch which was found to also have been stolen from a garage along the 100 Block of Fayal Road.

As officers were searching the area, police spotted a vehicle without any headlights. One of the officers attempted to stop the car, however the vehicle drove into the ditch and became stuck.

Authorities took the lone occupant of that car in for questioning. Upon further investigation, the driver of the car Garrett Sebastian Ryberg was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Third Degree Felony Burglary and three counts of Felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle in connection with the car thefts.

Eveleth Police Chief Tim Koivunen urges residents to make certain all garage and house doors are locked and keys are not left in any vehicles. Also use caution when leaving a vehicle run due to the cold temperatures outside.
