Explosion At Mesabi Nugget Plant

Aurora, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A worker at the Mesabi Nugget Plant was injured after an explosion in one of the plant's buildings.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of an injured worker just after 11 a.m. Monday.

Company officials at the scene said an explosion occurred in a building called the cooler, blowing out a part of the south wall.

Bradley Althaus, 42, was outside the building when the explosion happened, and was hit on the back of the head by a part of the wall.

He suffered a blunt blow to the head and was transported to Essentia Health Northern Pines Medical Center for treatment.

Hoyt Lakes Ambulance and the Hoyt Lakes Police Department also responded to the call.
