Hoyt Lakes, MN (NCO.com) - A number of fire departments battled a fire at Mesabi Nugget in Hoyt Lakes Wednesday.

A picture taken at the scene shows black smoke billowing out from building #2.

There were no injuries from the fire, which was limited to the one of green ball dryers and some of the immediately surrounding equipment.

“We followed all of our safety procedures and protocols” in responding to the fire, said Plant Manager Jeff Hansen. “We are grateful for the rapid response of local firefighters and responders and their work in extinguishing the fire rapidly.”

Mesabi Nugget officials were investigating the cause of the fire Wednesday evening.

Hansen said the initial reports were that the damage appeared limited, and he anticipated production would resume in the near future.

Aurora, Palo, Hoyt Lakes, Lake land Fire and Embarrass fire Departments responded to the scene.
