St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Governor Mark Dayton has declared an emergency order in response to the severe shortage of propane.

On Monday, Governor Dayton and his administration have called on President Obama to waive shipping restrictions and increase the delivery of propane into Minnesota.

Dayton is asking the Obama administration to assist eligible Minnesotans and families with the rising cost of propane with emergency assistance.

Dayton will meet with propane suppliers on Tuesday to discuss ways to help struggling Minnesotans.

In addition to Monday's emergency order, Gov. Dayton is calling on the state Commission of Commerce to help guard Minnesotans from potential propane price gouging. Consumers who believe they may have been victims of price gouging are encouraged to contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce Consumer Help Line at (651) 539-1500.
