Hibbing, MN (NNCNow.com) - The Hibbing Salvation Army wants to make sure word gets out that the deadline to apply for their Christmas assistance program is earlier this year.

The deadline is usually at the end of November, but was moved up to November 20th because Salvation Army members needed more time to get the toys and other items in the assistance packages ready.

Officials with the Salvation Army are worried that those in need of assistance this season don't know that the deadline has been changed and therefore won't apply in time to get the holiday help.

"The need is up from last year and the dollar doesn't stretch as much as it did last year," said Lt. Randy Stahl.

Salvation Army members say they're in need of anything community members are willing to give, but they are especially low on meat.

If you're interested in donating, contact the Hibbing Salvation Army at (218) 263-5096.

The Hibbing Salvation Army will also be hosting a dinner and auction on Friday, November 9th starting at 5 p.m. Money collected will go to their World Services program.
