A horse owner in rural Aitkin is warning other livestock owners of a large wild cat that may be on the loose in the area.
According to the Brainerd Dispatch, Lori Hart's 900 pound horse Molly was mauled by a big cat.
A veterinarian has confirmed that it was either a mountain lion or a cougar that attacked her horse.
Hart says the cat quote "took a big old chunk out of her hindquarters."
The vet who was taking care of Molly says that she heard of a similar attack less than a month ago of a big cat taking a calf.
The attack is believed to have taken place at a pasture a few miles from Hart's home near the junction of Highways 169 and 210.
Hart says Molly is recovering just fine though she does have some swelling from the attack and will be kept in a stall for the next three to four months.
