HIBBING, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---The community of Hibbing is mourning after two young girls passed away in a tragic car accident last weekend.

Kelsey Perkins and Lindsey Gonzalez were killed Saturday when their car left the road and rolled into a creek, just weeks before high school graduation.

Family and friends celebrated the life of Kelsey Perkins at a funeral service in Hibbing on Friday.

"Her and Lindsey both, they both had that wonderful smile," Brittany Kerr, a friend said.

Hundreds of friends and family filled the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in celebration of 17-year-old Kelsey Christine Perkins.

She's described by friends as "a girl whose smile could light up a room."

"There wasn't one day that she came to school without a smile on her face," Jaquelyn White, a friend said. "Every day she always had something to laugh about."

Cars lined the streets surrounding the church as those who knew Kelsey, gathered to share memories of her, knowing she would want them to focus on the happy times.

"I know she wouldn't want us crying over her right now, she would want us out having fun," White said.

"She would want us to think of the good times that we had with her," Kerr said.

Friends say Kelsey loved to play basketball and soccer and brought her usual exuberance to everything she did.

"She loved to be with her friends and cruise around and listen to music," White said.

"She loved dancing, just jamming out," Kerr said. "Having fun and being loud."

Kelsey planned to attend UMD in the fall.

Several students from the college who are friends of her older sister Chelsea came to show their support.

"They were very close," Luke Rickert, a family friend said. "Chelsea spoke highly of her sister and I know that she prayed for her sister often and she was pretty close to her family."

A reception was held in remembrance of Kelsey at the VFW in Hibbing.

A visitation service for Lindsey Gonzalez will be held at the Hibbing Dougherty Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Monday May, 7.

The funeral will begin at 3:30 on Tuesday, May 8, in the Hibbing High School gymnasium.
