(Northland's NewsCenter) --- Democratic lawmakers in the Iron Range Labor Assembly are gearing up for the Democratic National Convention.

The Northland's NewsCenter caught up with several state lawmakers Sunday, at a pre-labor day picnic in Virginia's Olcott Park.

Many said they were disappointed in the Republican Convention and thought the democratic message will resonate with voters this year.

"I think the Republican National Convention was a big flop," Rep. Tom Anzelc of District 3A said. "Ordinary common northern Minnesotans looked at that and said, that looks like the party of rich people to me."

"I'm looking forward to the Democrats telling the American people that they need four more years," Senator David Tomassoni of District 5 said. "If you go back to 1929, when the Republicans were in charge during the depression, it took Franklin Delano Roosevelt 12 years to get them out of the depression."

On Tuesday, we'll hear from State Representative Carly Melin, who is a delegate at this years Democratic National Convention.
