Virginia, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Just a few blocks from the Virginia's Veterans War Memorial, community members and lawmakers celebrated the upcoming holiday with a picnic in Olcott Park.

Hundreds gathered to celebrate workers on the Iron Range.

Many enjoyed picnic food, including hot dogs and brats from Frabonis as well as family friendly games and the sunny weather.

Numerous local and state lawmakers spoke at today's picnic, as well as U.S. Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar.

"This is really a time where we sit back and talk about work in this country," Sen. Klobuchar said. "It's been a tough, tough decade with college costs and with the hard jobs, people getting laid off. We are starting to see some up swing here in northern Minnesota."

Sunday's picnic wrapped up around five p.m.
