ASH RIVER, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Minnesota Power has granted the Iron Range engineering program $125,000 to help grow the program.

Leaders say the full expansion at the Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia will cost $3 million.

Plans include remodeling the current facility and adding new student office and manufacturing areas plus purchasing manufacturing equipment such as 3D modeling tools and high pressure cutters.

Spokespeople from Minnesota Power say they are thrilled to help a program that trains students for the real world.

"It all revolves around getting some really good talent here, that wants to be here, that wants to take advantage of the opportunity," Dave Mcmillan of MN Power said. "This program is uniquely set up so that students get an opportunity to learn while they do."

Construction will start in June and is expected to be finished by January.
